I think it can do a detuned sound, so it's possibly not changing pitch as much as an octave. It certainly does lots of U2 stuff, but I don't know that it changes the pitch enough. Try to ghetto rig using legacy plugins! Precision Mod Delay (possibly Precision Mod Delay L) to pitch the delayed signal +1 octave. So pitch > modulated long reverb > modulated delay > mess with the lengths of the feedback loop. By controlling the gain and equalization of the feedback loop, and the lengths of the various delays within the loop, the temporal evolution of the sound can be altered from steel drum-esque sounds to the slow attack “string pads” heard on many of the Eno/Lanois tracks.
